The Majestic Inner Light of Sedona

The Majestic Inner Light of Sedona

Imagine being in a Fine Art workshop with figure models on the sacred lands of Sedona! The models (clothed and nude) will interact with the landscape as you are guided to reach deeply into personal visual expressions at each creative experience. The two instructors will have you composing stunning images with several incredible figure models, such as Nicole Cudzilo from Santa Fe, Sedona model Pash Galbavy and Tucson model Lacey Wolf.

Color photographer Larry Lindahl and infrared and b/w photographer Laurie Klein each approach their craft in uniquely personal ways. You with your camera in the light and landscape of Sedona will photograph the other-worldly vistas in nature, usually with models to work with. Immerse yourself in artistic imagination, visual discoveries, and one-to-one inspiration.

What do these two instructors have in common? The love of the Arizona landscape! This unique workshop is for all levels of photographers.

Larry will take us into the red rocks landscape to places that are unique, revered, and majestic. His color landscape photography and night photography are breathtaking. Laurie Klein will guide us through working with models and creating emotive imagery in the landscape. Her infrared photography with the female form in the landscape is magical.

Laurie is an infrared and b/w photographer, educator, and author of three books on fine art photography. She is based on Rhode Island, and renowned for her sensitive images of the female form in the landscape.

Larry Lindahl, based in Sedona for 26 years, is an internationally published photographer in magazines such as Condé Nast Traveler, Glamour, and Der Spiegel. He captures the spirit of the Southwest primarily in color as seen in his inspiring book Secret Sedona: Sacred Moments in the Landscape.

The workshop is reserving only 8 spots, providing participants with abundant one-on-one time with each instructor.

Overview of Itinerary

Day One: Thur, May 14
We will begin our workshop with an orientation at Larry’s house. Both instructors will share about their connection with nature and its spiritual presence in their work. The talk will include photographing people in landscape followed by an inspiring slide presentation.

Our first photo shoot will take us to an iconic view of Sedona’s red rock formations. We will have our first opportunity to work with clothed models with a stunning background that will magically transform in color at sunset.

Day Two: Fri, May 15
An early morning journey takes us to an empowering site with moving water. Here we work with nudes on the red rocks in both B&W and Color. Capture the richly-colored light and reflections on the water at sunrise.

We will have a late-morning image review at Larry’s house. After a break for lunch we will complete our critique in the mid-afternoon.

Our afternoon shoot will take us to a magical place along Oak Creek. Once again we will work with our incredible models as we create visual interaction of the human form and the unique setting of Sedona’s red rocks.

Day Three: Sat, May 16
Sunrise will be a time for your own explorations of Sedona. We will provide participants with a map of scenic attractions to visit on their own. In mid-morning we will gather at Larry’s house for a review of images. A thorough discussion of post-production techniques will follow with inspiring demonstrations in both Photoshop and Lightroom.

After lunch we head out for a very special afternoon of shooting at a private location along Oak Creek. Laurie will demonstrate photographing the human form in water. Then, participants will enjoy a several hours working with multiple models along the gentle stream. Skulls and antlers will be available for props.

You will also be treated to an informal session of working with your iPhone. Learn to make quick photo sketches to explore potential comps for your final image.

Day Four: Sun, May 17
With an early departure we will enter a stunning area of geologic wonders, first by car and then on foot. A half-hour hike will take us to an exquisite place of water and sandstone where we will work with several models.

After lunch we head out to another stunning location, with an overview of soaring cliffs beneath the majestic Southwestern sky. We will work with clothed models for several hours leading us into the magical light of a Sedona sunset.

Day Five: Mon, May 18
We leave Sedona early for our drive to the haunted old ghost town of Jerome. Our morning shoot takes place in an amazing junk yard of old buildings, rusty trucks and nostalgic cars, gas pumps from the 50s and much, much more. This private shoot will include nude models.

Enjoy lunch at the infamous Haunted Hamburger. From the balcony enjoy views of this former copper mining town, buildings from a past era strewn on the steep hillside with the Verde Valley and red rocks of Sedona as a backdrop.

After exploring the many shops and attractions of Jerome we will return to Sedona. The afternoon will have post-processing instruction at Larry’s home. Enjoy the view from his deck of the towering Thunder Mountain as we wrap up our workshop before our farewell dinner.
